Critter - ‘Classic: Family Recipe.’ AKA the ‘CFR.’

This is my ever so slightly tweaked version of a classic mythical circuit. My goal was to enhance the circuit not only how I see fit, but having listened to the many Klone users out there as well. I did not change the design too far off. The original design is a transparent overdrive, to go too far away is defeating the purpose of the use of this tool. However my changes are noticeable, but not overbearing. I wanted to create a recipe that would please any buyer in a potentially blind buy. This pedal is amazing, and I am not even trying to give you a sales pitch, it’s just how I feel. Four+ years I’ve been building Klones for a living, this pedal is the culmination of all my learnings, refined.

The CFR now utilizes a TLE2072 chip. One word to describe the tone: “Heavenly.” Upon plugging this pedal in, the first thing you will notice is the high quality buffer bypass system. So clean, hi-fi and sparkling...WOW. Engage the stomp switch, gain knob at zero, this will yield a smooth clean boost function that has a clarity you’ve never heard before. I use this chip for the buffer and the clipping portion of the circuit. This is an upgrade from the previous TL072 chip.

Redefined Treble Knob: I’ve smoothed out the treble/tone-control of the circuit to sound less thin but retain its clarity (this is the number one complaint from Klone users.) Too much low frequency will cause a muddy sound and bite in the wrong way. Through trial and error, I’ve got this feature fine tuned.

Slightly More Gain on Tap: You heard it true, but this will only effect the pedal when you max the gain knob. Your clean boost and light O.D functions will not be harmed. Again I went with a very low change from the original, just enough to have a little more! Too much extra gain and the circuit will become too noisy and hiss. It’s a small change, but a change.

New Fat Switch: I went with a amount of fattening low end boost that is less than found in my standard ‘Critter Classic Klone V3.’ While customer feed back has never said anything but it is the perfect amount, I needed the new fat switch to react to the new treble knob mod, and I felt personally this amount of extra body to the signal was the perfect amount to retain that ‘Klone Thing’ that we all love. Keep the switch in the middle position for the classic tone, or flip the switch up for a little more body. Again the goal here is keeping clarity and not straying too far off from transparency. While you can dial in new frequencies for your instrument, no negative or unwanted color will be applied.

Critter Brown Sound Mod: It’s back! The loved extra set of clipping diodes that went away with the Critter Klone V2. Flip the toggle down, floor the gain, turn up the volume, lower the tone, and you’ve got a DISTORTION MACHINE. Smooth, low noise, clear and slightly compressed. Instant classic tones.

A 5mm LED and bezel, that has been tuned to a perfect brightness not to blind you.

The circuit has a blend of Carbon and Metal Film resistors used in strategic placing to yield clean power and a tone with mojo. High quality capacitors, the majority are quality mylar film capacitors. 1N34A diodes. Every part is hand soldered and flown meticulously by me, Ronnie.

Controls: Treble, Gain, Volume.

Lifetime warranty on defects. Take care of it, I’ll always take care of you.

Manual Included.

Runs on a standard 9v power supply, center negative, just like any boss or Ibanez pedal. This is the best Klone I’ve ever heard, take a chance and you won’t be disappointed.
